Arrival/Dismissal Procedures
Arrival
The front school doors are opened daily at 8:15 a.m. and students wait in the auditorium until their grade level is dismissed to class. Upon dismissal, students are given breakfast and head to their classroom.
School begins at 8:30 a.m. Students are considered tardy when they arrive at school or in class after 8:35 am.
Early Dismissal from School
Early dismissal is strongly discouraged. Children who are picked up 1/2 hour to an hour early are missing weeks of class per semester, affecting their grades and academic success.
However, emergencies will occur and student(s) must be picked up early. In those cases, the Parent/Guardian/Emergency Contact wishing to retrieve a student from school early must follow these procedures:
- Parents picking up their student(s) will enter the building and go directly to the main office.
- Parents/ guardians wishing to sign a student out of school must present a valid Michigan Driver’s license or State Identification card. The person’s name must also appear on the child’s contact record for the student to be released.
- The classroom teacher will be notified to release your student with their belongings and send him/her immediately to the main office.
***If the adult's name does NOT appear on the school contact list, the student(s) will NOT be released.***
Dismissal from School
- Pre-K parents/guardians are required to sign their students out before the student can leave the building. The sign-out binders are handled by the teacher upon dismissal.
- Kindergarten through 2nd grade students are escorted to the far right door by their homeroom teachers.
- Bus children, grades Kindergarten through 3rd grade and all middle school students are guided by their teacher to their buses using the side door where they will load the bus.
- Remaining 3rd through 5th-grade students are all dismissed through the front doors of the building to walk or ride home, escorted by their teacher.
- Any students left without a way home are led to the office. Office staff will contact a parent/guardian to arrange the student(s) pick up.

Transportation

If your child needs a bus ride, you can contact us at (313) 576-0100 or (313) 945-8600. Just so you know, DPSCD doesn't arrange transportation for Pre-K students; parents need to take care of that themselves.
For Elementary/Middle School students, we offer transportation if they live more than 3/4 of a mile from their assigned neighborhood school. We're dedicated to making sure our students have a safe and easy time getting to school. If you have questions or need help with transportation, you can always get in touch with us for more information.
